Podcast Review: December

History of Photography

For years, I’ve contemplated going to tech school, college, art school or graduate school for photography. But, as my undergraduate debts, minimal compared to some, loom over me, I’m convinced that right now, I just need to focus on other things instead of going to school in addition to my business degree I have already. Maybe I will do this in the future, but in the mean time, I’m going to see how much I can learn on my own. Finally I asked myself the question;

What is it that I want to in a photography program that I can’t learn now?

A true homeschooler response, right?

As I made a mental list of things I would want to get out of a formal photography education; history of art and Photoshop just to name a few, I did a search for podcasts and found History of Photography taught at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois by Jeff Curto. I’ve learned a lot so far and there are even the slides in the presentation that appear on my phone screen. The only thing I’m missing out on is the homework!

Theater People Podcast

For those of you who may not know this about me, theater has been a fascination and passion of mine ever since my childhood. I’ve put the interest/involvement of it on hold for a while but now with my accessibility to the Theater District just blocks away from me, I thought it would be so fun to get to know the actors and productions happening here. Even if I can’t attend very many shows with my current budget (New York living is expensive obviously), I am loving learning about the actor stories and productions that are so inspiring. I recommend it to anyone interested in theater.

You may have heard of this podcast produced by “This American Life.” My friend Morgan, author of The Otter Dance, told me about it and it’s been a very interesting listen. I am not naturally drawn to murder mysteries but I have enjoyed this production and being in-the-know of a current “radio drama.” I saw it on a subway riders phone screen, I recommended it to a girl at my apartment who is studying criminal law and stories about it have appeared on Facebook and Twitter. Seriously, it’s everywhere.

The Lively Show

Morgan also recommended this great find. I highly recommend it. It is similar to what I hope the Social Endeavor podcast will be like sometime in the future. Jess talks about artists, budget conscious young professionals, creatives, life coaches and others. I have found many new bloggers to follow and it has even inspired me to pick back up with Social Endeavor with more frequent writing. Yay!
